What is a website?
A website is a collection of web pages and images that provide information about an organization, business, or individual. Websites are the most common way to represent organizations online, and they’re also the primary tool for organizations to market themselves online.
A well-designed website presents an image of the organization that is both accurate and appealing. A website can be thought of as a digital business card: it should promote the organization in a positive way while also being easy to navigate and visually attractive.
A web designer creates a website design based on feedback from the organization’s management team and then implements the design by writing HTML code and other instructions for how the website should appear across different browsers and operating systems. Once the design is implemented, the designer tests it to ensure it works correctly on various operating systems (including mobile devices), browsers, screen sizes, and more.
HTML is one of many markup languages that tell a computer how to display text, images, and other content on a web page:
- The opening tag indicates what type of element you’re starting (e.g., <img> tells the browser to display an image).
- The main section defines the body.
