The importance of LinkedIn in B2B social networking

Social networks are useful for B2B marketing and communication, but the different platforms favor a specific type of interaction.

LinkedIn is our favorite social network for managing professional contacts, and it’s an invaluable tool for building professional relationships – and if you use it correctly, you can also use it to generate sales opportunities directly.

If you want to make the most of LinkedIn, remember that its strength lies in the quality of your connections. You don’t need hundreds or thousands of connections, just good (qualitative) ones. It’s not a good idea to connect with just anyone, but rather to focus on people who will be interested in your products or services and who will help you expand your sales network.

Find people who are already connected to your existing prospects and get in touch with them. If someone isn’t related to one of your prospects, contact them anyway, but make sure you have a legitimate reason for doing so (don’t insert random links into conversations).

The key is engagement: maintain a dialogue with your contacts by commenting on their publications and asking questions. Eventually, they’ll want to know what you do, and then you can present yourself as an expert in your sector and offer to get in touch with them.

Any tips for using LinkedIn?

In the world of business and communication, LinkedIn is today’s leading social network, and is the favorite of many recruiters. It’s also a great way to keep in touch with professional partners, even if you don’t work in the same sector.

However, using LinkedIn for purely personal purposes has become a growing trend. Some people are even neglecting their professional networks to focus on their personal ones. There are two main reasons for this:

• Using LinkedIn for personal communications is difficult due to its default settings.
• The first thing to do when creating an account on LinkedIn is to set your privacy settings correctly. The default settings are not always suitable for professional use.

You should also avoid the common mistake of using a photo that might have been taken at a private party, or even worse, in a swimsuit. Such photos can be misinterpreted by other members, including recruiters who may contact you later to recruit you!

If you’re looking for a job or new customers, it’s important to fill in your profile completely, ideally including information about your skills and experience.
