A press campaign is an important part of a company’s communications policy. It’s a common misconception that advertising is the same thing as publicity, but there are many differences between the two. Advertising is not paid for, whereas publicity is. Advertising is about telling your story to get people interested in your product or service, whereas publicity is about getting people to buy something they may not know they need.
Advertising campaigns are generally aimed at specific audiences and have a precise objective. For example, if you have a new product line about to be launched, you can target journalists who write about it, as well as consumers who might be interested in buying your product. There are many ways to set up an advertising campaign: writing articles yourself and submitting them to magazines; sending out press releases; contacting journalists directly; getting celebrity endorsements; using social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook.
For a company’s publicity campaign to be successful, it must first be properly planned, with clear objectives and plans for how things will unfold once the campaign has begun. Successful PR campaigns can lead to increased sales and profits for companies by raising brand awareness in target markets.
